Maddux Creative x Samuel & Sons passementerie collection, 'Gloriette' launches today. ‘Gloriette’ celebrates both the simple geometric forms of Neo-classical architecture whilst honouring the detailed, joyous forms of Florentine Pietra Dura mosaic work and its vivid colour sensibility.

Gloriette is a brilliant collection of passementerie inspired by the creative work of Scott Maddux and Jo leGleud of Maddux Creative. The patterns in the collection draw upon different principles of Neoclassical architecture. One series focuses on Palladian symmetry, order, and proportions while a second narrative references the extraordinary Florentine Pietra Dura mosaic work and its vivid color sensibility.

Time-honored techniques of layered hand printing on textural grounds, hand embroidery, and fringing are used to render the series of patterns that are featured in this poetic collection. Jo leGleud remarked “I wanted to create a collection of passementerie which celebrated both the simple geometric forms of Neoclassical architecture whilst honouring the detailed joyous forms of classical motifs. Working on this collection allowed me to use my hands again and to focus on sculpting, colouring, texture, and materiality.

Stylistically, Jo and Scott sought to focus on marrying traditional embroidery techniques with contemporary, innovative design principles contributing to the collection’s relevance and versatility.

Gloriette offers a distinctive selection of exquisite patterns, rendered in sophisticated constructions and poetic colours, giving this collection the ability to transform any interior into a breathtaking experience for the senses.

The collection houses multiple stories, the first of which is composed of 3 embroidered borders. Each of these three designs celebrates the gentle restraint demonstrated throughout the Neoclassical movement. Designed to reflect on the rigour, simplicity, and quiet architectural form and described by a hand stab-stitched style implying an animated tromp l’oiel effect.
